(Video) Are Malaysian Men The Most Handsome In Asia According To Japanese Women?

Move over K-pop oppas — there’s a new heartthrob in town, and he might just be your average Malaysian guy or even a lorry driver. In a now-viral street interview, two Japanese women were asked which Asian men they found the most attractive. Without hesitation, they crowned Malaysian men as the most handsome in the region.

Not only did Malaysia top their list, but our men also beat out South Korea despite the K-wave and other usual heavyweights like the Philippines and Indonesia. Their unexpected choice has sparked waves of pride (and playful disbelief) across Malaysian social media.

One would ponder, what makes Malaysian men so appealing? According to the women, it’s all about facial features. “I like their face shape,” one of them said confidently. Her friend agreed, adding, “I saw Malaysian guys on TikTok, and they looked very charming.”

It seems that TikTok has become a global window into the everyday lives of people worldwide, and Malaysian men have somehow gotten picked up by the algorithm gods. Whether it’s their style, confidence, or natural good looks, these TikTok cameos are leaving a mark far beyond our borders.

Their answer, of course, quickly stirred reactions from Malaysian netizens who were thrilled to hear the unexpected praise. One user commented, “We really are handsome — just born in the wrong country.” Another asked, “Which Malaysian guys are they seeing on TikTok? Share the usernames!”

Some netizens even brought up Syihan Hazmi, the Malaysian footballer who once went viral in South Korea for his striking good looks during an international match. One user quipped, “Remember during the Malaysia vs Korea match? Syihan instantly became famous in Korea. We’ve been iconic since then.”

If hot Malaysian men are going to be a thing, the era of Abangs taking over TikTok is upon us (here’s hoping). Either way, this light-hearted moment was a nice treat and ego boost; it’s not every day that Malaysians become top of something. So, to the Malaysian men out there: keep doing you. Someone, somewhere in Japan, is swooning over your TikToks — and the rest of the world might be next.

Do you think Malaysian men are the next hotcakes?
