While Malaysia might not get a blanket of snow to signal the holiday season, shopping malls make up for it by going all out with their Christmas decorations – even so that it has impressed foreigners with its grand scale.

American-born content creator Lilith uploaded a video on TikTok, sharing her amazement at how Malaysians go above and beyond for Christmas decorations. In her video, the KL-based model says Malaysians are better at Christmas decorations than the United States. She added that malls in the US don’t have nearly as many decorations in the malls, compared to the ones in Malaysia. In her video, Lilith also highlights the giant Christmas tree at the Esplanade KLCC, outside the mall, saying that she’s never seen a Christmas tree as tall as that in America.

How is it that Malaysians go harder on Christmas than Americans do??? 🤣🤣🤣🎄🎄🎄 #christmasmalaysia#malaysiachristmas#kualalumpur#malaysia#malaysianmall#klmall

Lilith’s video garnered tons of attention from locals, who were just as impressed at the Christmas decorations as she was. Many said the grand celebrations are because of Malaysia’s multi-religious and multicultural background, which celebrates all religions and cultures. Some netizens also say Malaysians generally love celebrations and holidays, thus the festive decorations in shopping malls. There were also comments recommending Lilith to check out the decorations at Imago Shopping Mall in Sabah.

However, some netizens noted that Christmas gets priority from malls, pointing out how the decorations for Deepavali weren’t as festive. Previously, a few Twitter users called out Mid Valley Megamall for disrespecting the Hindu festival as the mall has put up Christmas decorations before the Deepavali weekend. A few comments also spoke about how the decorations were recycled from previous years, which was another issue previously brought up by netizens.
