The latest season of Netflix’s reality competition series “The Mole” has just dropped – and turns out, it’s set entirely in Malaysia! We have a list of all the locations where the first five episodes were filmed!

“The Mole” gained its success from the first season, which was filmed in Australia. It follows 12 contestants from different backgrounds who must work together to add money to the prize pot and “the mole” will have to keep the prize money low and avoid getting caught. Season 2 started filming in July 2023, and lasted for 6 weeks. Here are the locations we spotted!

Warning! “The Mole” spoilers ahead.

Kuala Lumpur

The famous Petronas Twin Towers, which is featured in the trailer, is the the site of one of the challenges. Our capital city was featured in a few scenes of an episode, but most KL scenes were filmed at Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur.

Tioman Island

This tropical island was a major location for the show and was shot specifically at Monkey Bay. The island known to Malaysians as a popular tourist spot, and our own personal getaway closest to Bali and the Maldives. Tioman island has many chalets and resorts where the cast and crew stayed during the filming.

The abandoned “Ghost City” is featured in another episode, where where contestants rappel down the “Money Tower”.

Port Klang

The episode “Special Delivery” was filmed in Port Klang. Many parts of the town were featured, giving the city it’s moment of glory.

Napier Grass Field

Additionally, the lush Napier grass fields in Western Malaysia served as a stunning filming location. With their expansive greenery, these fields provided a picturesque backdrop to the episode.

Bonus Location : Lotus Five Star cinema

In one episode, the iconic Lotus cinema – one of Malaysia’s oldest cinemas – is featured. Although the building got a few seconds of fame, it was still amazing to watch.

It’s always so exciting to see our country and culture be represented in major films. As the next batch of episodes get released on Netflix this 22nd July, Malaysians are definitely eager to find out if we can spot any other gems featured.
