In 2022, local entrepreneur Aliff Syukri sparked outrage with his “Kelepok Raya” music video, as many deemed it inappropriate for the religious festivities. The issue even resulted in a court case involving the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
To recap, in 2022, the entrepreneur sparked controversy with his “Kelepok Raya” single, which was released in conjunction with the Hari Raya festivities. While the song itself wasn’t an issue, the outrage stemmed from the music video, which depicted scenes of men dancing suggestively and Aliff Syukri lying on the ground with several male dancers surrounding him. Netizens heavily criticised the video, calling it disgusting and inappropriate for the religious occasion.
Unfortunately for Aliff Syukri, the issue took a turn for the worse when netizens reported his social posts for the video to the MCMC. The media personality was subsequently accused of four counts of uploading four clips, all related to the music video, onto his Instagram account with the intent to annoy others. The case has been ongoing since October 2022, and Aliff Syukri was ordered to enter his defence on 14th March 2025 (Friday).
After nearly three years, the entrepreneur was finally acquitted of all charges relating to the “Kelepok Raya” music video. Sessions Court judge Ahmad Fuad Othman made the order of a discharge and acquittal (DNA) after considering additional submissions from the defence and prosecution. Following his acquittal, Aliff Syukri spoke to the awaiting press to share his reaction to the whole ordeal.
The media personality appeared to be tearing up when speaking to journalists. He said that he’s happy to be acquitted of the charges, adding that he was under a lot of stress the past few years. He also thanked his team of lawyers for their hard work in defending him in court. Aliff Syukri also quipped that he will release a new song to celebrate his acquittal, adding that it will be better.
While we can’t comment on the possible new song, we can congratulate the entrepreneur on winning his case. Let’s hope he uses it as a reminder not to repeat his mistake. Watch clips of his court appearance below:
