Aina Abdul is taking another step into global stardom! The powerhouse vocalist will be representing Malaysia at the inaugural “Eurovision Song Contest Asia”, competing against stars from other parts of the region.
The announcement was made on 15th August 2026 (Saturday) during the 40th “Anugerah Juara Lagu (AJL)” annual song competition. During the programme, Aina and nine other artists competed for the coveted first-place prize. This year, the singer won the Best Performance Award and the fan-voted Anugerah IKON Artis Pilihan Shopee award, receiving RM62,000 in total in cash prizes.

Along with her two wins, Aina was also announced as Malaysia’s representative at the upcoming “Eurovision Song Contest Asia”. The competition is a spin-off of the iconic international song competition, where broadcasters from the Asia-Pacific region will compete against each other, representing their countries. “Eurovision Asia” will take place in Bangkok, Thailand, on 14th November 2026 (Saturday).
Aina is only the second singer confirmed for the competition so far. Earlier this month, singer Nyedra won the “Rhythm of Bhutan” with his performance of “Lhayi Semo”, earning him a spot in “Eurovision Asia” as Bhutan’s representative. Other countries will also hold similar competitions for their representative singers. Notably, Malaysia is the only competing country that didn’t hold a separate contest for a representative.

Aina has since shared her reaction to being chosen to represent Malaysia in the upcoming song competition. Speaking to the media, the singer-songwriter said being chosen felt like the real victory of the night, adding, “When I heard my name being announced, I thought, ‘Allah, this is the real win for me.’” She also mentioned being a fan of the original Eurovision and watching many past performances.
Fans are also ecstatic that Aina will be Malaysia’s representative for the inaugural Eurovision Asia. Many said she’s an apt choice for the competition, noting her strong vocal prowess and captivating stage presence. Since Aina has yet to announce her song choice for the competition, some also hoped that she would pick a song that would showcase her skills and elaborate stage presentation.
Along with her win, TV3 also announced a new programme documenting the singer’s journey to Eurovision Asia. “Malaysia Memburu Impian” will chart Aina’s selection at AJL, all the way through to her participation in Bangkok in November. New episodes of the docuseries will be released every Thursday as part of TV3’s weekly infotainment programme, “Melodi”.
We would also like to congratulate Aina on her wins and on being chosen to represent Malaysia in Eurovision Asia. We wish her all the best in her journey, and may she emerge victorious. In the meantime, check out her winning performance of “Kamu” at AJL:
