With the confirmed Malaysian cameos of Marvel’s 36th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), featuring familiar Malaysian landmarks and a local influencer extra, Malaysian Marvel fans are eager for the release of the anticipated film, “Thunderbolts*”. The film, starring Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Sebastian Stan and Hannah John-Kamen, follows a band of anti-heroes conducting covert operations for the government of the United States.
Just less than a month to go to its premiere date (2nd May 2025), Marvel has been releasing back-to-back teasers that keep the fans, especially the Malaysians, on their toes for the film. One newly released “Making Of” featurette of “Thunderbolts*” shows the behind-the-scenes footage of the stunts featured in the film. However, the highlight of the clip is Florence Pugh’s skydive off Malaysia’s very own Merdeka 118 tower.
The teaser shows the actress prepping herself for the jump with the production and safety team by her side. Looking excited about her stunt, the 28 year old actress comments, “Of any stunt in any movie, this is amazing”. Towering over 678.9m tall, the 118-storey skyscraper is the second tallest building in the world, just behind the Burj Khalifa located in Dubai, which sits at 828m.
The scene then fades to Pugh’s pre-launch off the building with a harness as she cheekily comments, “How many times do you see someone throwing themselves off a building?”. With the countdown from the team, Pugh launches herself, chest first down the plunge down the Merdeka 118 tower and opens her parachute onto the coolest landing scene, with a straight face.
Fans from across the globe showed enthusiasm over Florence’s stunt, like Instagram user @/_official_ethan who commented, “Real life jumping off that building (Merdeka 118) is crazy… this movie about to be peak!”. Malaysian Marvel fans were also excited about the landmark cameo, with users like @/blackroserebell commenting, “Merdeka 118 feature! Woohoo”.
