For awhile now, vaping has been the current issue in Malaysia nowadays. This is largely due to the fact that the Health Ministry has been in talks to either ban or regulate vaping.

The vaping habit is quickly becoming immensely popular, especially among college students. The main reason is because colleges do not currently have any policies regarding the usage of the vaporizer.

In Malaysia, most colleges ban the smoking of cigarettes near campus buildings or indoors. However, there are no regulations towards the usage of the vaporizer. Therefore, students use e-cigarettes as it is much more convenient compared to smoking normal cigarettes.

Now, according to The Star Online, the Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh says that vaping and smoking are banned in 20 public universities in Malaysia.

He also said that the universities’ vice-chancellors have reached a joint decision towards the matter at a meeting on Friday.

The Higher Education Minister mentioned that even though a few of the vice-chancellors have banned vape within the borders of their campuses, he still felt that the joint decision was appropriate as universities are widely known as “green zones”.

Speaking to reporters after opening the Sixth Malaysian Educational Institutions Games at Dewan 2020, he said:

Before we only banned smoking of tobacco but now we are extending it to vape as well.

Also present at the opening were Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Mary Yap Kain Ching, Perlis Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man and Community College Education Department director-general Datuk Amir Md Noor.

So what do you guys think? Do you think it was an appropriate decision? Write your thoughts in the comment box below.
