Love is allegedly in the air for two particular artists, but is it true? Chinese actress Esther Yu Shuxin (虞书欣) and Taiwanese-American singer Vanness Wu (吴建豪) are suspected of being in love, and it’s been trending, thanks to the 17-year age gap between the two.
Neither Esther Yu (27) nor Vanness Wu (44) have alluded to the supposed romance. However, rumours of the duo’s affair have been going wild, and netizens are supposedly certain the two are together, based on a few pointed coincidences.
Netizens on Weibo first claimed that they discovered both Vanness Wu and Esther Yu had appeared in Los Angeles around the same time, that is 11th and 12th April. At that time, Vanness had posted photos of him having dinner with his family in LA while Esther was spotted chilling in the same city.
The coincidence continued when Vanness was seen flying to Beijing in early May, while Esther had a meetup with friends there too. Then, in late May, the two were apparently in the same city again, this time; Hong Kong. Additionally, both Vanness and Esther were also spotted in a photo together with their mutual fans. The string of alleged coincidences has led netizens to suspect they are together.
Of course, random appearances aren’t enough to justify that Vanness and Esther might be together. Netizens also claimed that the two have been matching their outfits. Esther was reportedly spotted in a purple suspender skirt while Vanness wore a similar coloured cardigan. Netizens also noted that Vanness started wearing a star necklace with his outfits in April, coincidently after Esther picked up the nickname “Little Star”.
However, not everyone agrees. Some netizens have shut down the rumours, clearly unsettled by their age gap. “Don’t be too (scandalous), I think he can be her father!” Another pointed out that the coincidences didn’t really amount to much. “The key is that they aren’t in the same frame, even if they are in the same city 100 times,” they said.
Well, there is no denying that there are a stunning amount of coincidences between the two. However, as neither Vanness Wu nor Esther Yu has said anything about it, it might be best to take said rumours with a pinch of salt.
Update (8th June):
Esther Yu’s studio has released a statement to shut down dating rumours that have been making headlines this week. According the company, the pair aren’t even friends to begin with. In fact Vanness’ team apparently finds the dating rumours “ridiculous” they don’t want to address it.
