US Research Suggests Malaysians & Indonesians Are The Laziest Pedestrians In The World

Some days we can be very productive in getting work and errands done but some days we’re just lazy. There’s nothing wrong with being lazy from time to time as long as the workload doesn’t pile up. But sometimes we don’t realise just how lazy we are until someone points it out.

The thing about laziness is that it can be subjective as people have different definitions of the word. What others call laziness, we call it “working smart” or “saving energy”. Not everything requires us to give 110% but according to this research, Malaysians and Indonesians took the top spots respectively in the laziest pedestrians category. Here’s what they have to say:

SOURCE: WIKIMEDIA

American institute, Stanford University apparently conducted a study to see just how many steps an average person takes on a daily basis. The researchers conducted the study by using minute-to-minute data collected from 700k people around the world who are using the Argus app, an app that records user activity.

According to the results from the data collected, Malaysians and Indonesians are among the top 3 laziest pedestrians in the world with Indonesia taking the no.1 spot and Malaysia coming in 3rd after Saudi Arabia. In the data shown on Tempo, the average Indonesian walks up to only 3,513 steps a day while the average Malaysian will walk up to 3,963 steps a day.

Here’s the full list of laziest pedestrians around the world:

  1. Indonesia – 3,513 steps a day
  2. Saudi Arabia – 3,807 steps a day
  3. Malaysia – 3,963 steps a day
  4. The Philippines – 4,008 steps a day
  5. South Africa – 4,105 steps a day
  6. Qatar – 4,158 steps a day
  7. Brazil – 4,289 steps a day
  8. India – 4,297 steps a day
  9. Egypt – 4,315 steps a day
  10. Greece – 4,350 steps a day

The researchers in Stanford weren’t just looking for the laziest pedestrians in the world as they’ve also discovered which countries are the most active in terms of walking with Hong Kong taking the no.1 spot (6,880 steps a day). According to the research, there’s also a gap between which gender is more active in walking.

Based on the results, women tend to be lazier than men in countries with the laziest population while in countries that are diligent in walking like Japan, both men and women walk the same amount every day.

What will you do with this information?
