The music world is mourning the loss of American singer-songwriter and internet personality Oliver Tree, who has reportedly died at the age of 32 following a helicopter collision in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
According to a report by CNN Brazil, citing the Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro, Tree was among six people killed after two helicopters collided mid-air over the city’s Recreio dos Bandeirantes district on 14 June. Authorities have confirmed that there were no survivors, while the cause of the collision remains under investigation.

The crash reportedly occurred while Tree was travelling through Brazil as part of his ongoing world tour. One of the helicopters is said to have crashed into an area used to store electric vehicles, triggering a large fire that engulfed multiple cars and prompted an emergency response from local authorities.
Among the other victims were Argentine content creator Gaspar Prim Díaz, music video director Lucas Vignale.

Born Oliver Tree Nickell, the California native built a devoted global following through his unique blend of alternative pop, electronic music, comedy, and internet culture. Instantly recognisable for his bowl-cut hairstyle, oversized outfits, and eccentric music videos, Tree became one of the most unconventional breakout artists of the streaming era.

His popularity soared with hits such as Life Goes On, Hurt, and Miss You, the latter becoming a global dance hit and introducing his music to an even wider audience. Throughout his career, Tree was known for balancing humour with introspective songwriting, often blurring the line between performance art and pop music.
Beyond music, he was also celebrated for his creative visuals, directing many of his own videos and cultivating a distinctive artistic identity that resonated with millions of fans worldwide.
At the time of his death, he reportedly attracted more than 11 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
