Oh, what a sneaky move, YG!
It seems like YG Entertainment has kept a lot of things under its belt as another new boy group, UNIQ, that was trained under the company will make their debut in China soon. But! Instead of making their debut under YG Entertainment, the new boy group UNIQ is officially under the China-based entertainment company, Yuehua Entertainment.
After announcing their upcoming boy group iKON, Chinese media outlets reported that YG Entertainment will be collaborating with Yuehua Entertainment to debut a new 5-member boy group, UNIQ. The name derived from the words “unique” and “unicorn” to symbolise their uniqueness and their pure spirit.
It seems like the K-Pop giant is ready to enter the Chinese market as UNIQ is a Korean-Chinese boy group. Similar to EXO from SM Entertainment, the boy group will promote simultaneously in both China and Korea. The group also consists of both Chinese and Korean members that have been secretly training under YG Entertainment for 4 years.
With an average age of 19 and height of 180cm, the group consists of 3 Chinese members (Wong Yibo, Li Wenhan, and Zhou Yixuan) and 2 Korean members (Kim Sungjoo ang Chao Chengyan). Kim Sungjoo is previously known for being an ex-trainee of YG Entertainment and a close friend of WINNER’s Seungyoon and Jinwoo.
The expectations are high for the group as it was reported that 100 million RMB has been invested in them. Rumour has it that UNIQ will be making a special appearance at YG Family’s concert in Beijing next month.
