#TyphoidOutbreak: Is The Suria KLCC Food Court A No-Go Zone?

On Monday (19th October 2015), it was reported that Malaysia is currently facing a Typhoid fever outbreak as cases are on a rise in Kuala Lumpur. As such, the Malaysian Health Ministry has urged public to pay attention to the level of cleanliness at shops they frequently visit, including the cleanliness of the staff and the food being served.

Naturally, soon after the announcement, Malaysians became more paranoid about the general hygiene of places they frequent and food they eat. Messages started circulating on social media with regards to places to avoid, including the Suria KLCC food courts.

As seen in the screenshot above, the message urged people to stay away from the KLCC food court, amongst other locations. There were also rumours that KLCC’s food courts were among the areas that were under inspection for typhoid.

But Suria KLCC Sdn Bhd was quick to respond to the rumours and have since denied that its food courts are being monitored by the Health Ministry due to the recent typhoid outbreak.

According to The Star Online, Suria KLCC Sdn Bhd’s public relations and communications manager Fartini Zaharuddin said on Wednesday (21st October 2015) that according to the statement made by the Health Ministry, Suria KLCC was not listed as an affected area.

“Our food operators adhere to our stringent International food quality and safety standards, and are in compliance with the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) system,” she said. She also added that Suria KLCC places high priority on the safety and well being of its visitors, customers, retail partners and employees.

Moral of the story? Especially in times like these, don’t blindly believe just about anything or everything that you read on social media.

Go here for ways to prevent and avoid the typhoid fever.
