For tea connoisseurs, there’s one annual release that inspires the same anticipation as a prestigious vintage champagne or a converted wine harvest. It’s finally here.

TWG Tea has officially unveiled its limited edition 2026 Darjeeling First Flush Tea, marking the return of what is widely regarded as the “Champagne of Teas.” Available in Malaysia from 9 July 2026, this year’s release captures one of nature’s shortest and most prized harvest windows, making it one of the luxury tea brand’s most anticipated collections every year.

Presented in an elegant imperial yellow and gold collector’s tea tin, the 2026 Darjeeling First Flush Tea (RM180/100g) headlines. TWG Tea’s annual Grand Mode Tea Collection alongside 12 exceptional single-estate first flush harvest sourced from some of Darjeeling’s most celebrated gardens.

Why is Darjeeling First Flush So Special?

Unlike conventional black teas, Darjeeling First Flush is harvested just one each spring, when the tea bushes awaken after winter dormancy. Making the timing everything.

For only a brief period each year, the youngest shoots emerge across the mist covered Himalayan slopes. These delicate leaves are hand-picked before sunrise, with harvesters selecting only the finest “two leaves and a bud” from each plant. It takes an astonishing 20 000 to 22 000 shoots to produce just 1kg of finished teas, making every batch incredibly limited.

The result is a tea unlike any other. This year’s harvest opens with notes of ripe orchard fruits and toasted nuts before developing into a beautifully layered cup with remarkable clarity and crisp, lingering finish, characteristics that have made Darjeeling one of the world’s most sought after black teas.

The Himalaya’s Best Kept Secret

Often referred to as the King of Black Teas, Darjeeling owes its distinctive character to a terroir that simply cannot be replicated elsewhere.

Nestled in the Himalayan foothills at elevations reaching 2500 meters, the region experiences cool mountain temperatures, mineral rich soil, seasonal rainfall and drifting morning mists that shape every harvest. These unique conditions give Darjeeling teas their signature elegance, complexity and floral brightness that collectors eagerly await each spring.

Because the harvest is so dependent on nature, no two years ever taste exactly the same, making every First Flush release a snapshot of a single season.

A Collection Worth Collecting

Beyond its flagship release, TWG Tea is also introducing a curated selection of twelve premium single estate First Flush teas sourced from some of Darjeeling’s most prestigious gardens.

Among this year’s highlights are Okayti Excellence SFTGFOP1, known for its tropical mango, papaya, and guava notes; Castleton SFTGFOP1, offering flavors of ripe apricots, grapes, and white currants; and Orange Valley SFTGFOP1, celebrated for its delicate honey, custard apple, and mango profile.

Each estate produces its own unique expression of the season, giving tea lovers the opportunity to experience how subtle changes in altitude, weather, and cultivation influence every cup.

Prices start from RM 180 per 50g, with rare selections reaching RM 360 per 50g.

Not Your Usual Cup of Tea

Behind every harvest is an entire community dedicated to preserving generations of tea growing traditions.

TWG Tea works closely with its partner estates across Darjeeling, supporting local communities through education, healthcare, and long term sustainability initiatives. Some estates operate schools and community centres for workers’ families, while others provide on site hospitals, hospice care and livestock programmes that offer additional income opportunities for employees.

It’s a reminder that every cup represents both exceptional craftsmanship and the people who have perfected these techniques across generations.

Available For A Limited Time

Like every First Flush season, availability is expected to be limited.

The 2026 Darjeeling First Flush Tea and accompanying single estate harvest will be available from 9 July 2026 at TWG Tea Salons & Boutiques across Malaysia and online, while stocks last.

For collectors and tea enthusiasts alike, this is one annual release worth steeping over before it disappears until next spring.
