Most people tend to assume that outright bullying only happens when you’re young. Likely because they hope that maturity would at least encourage people to think before they act. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case for this group of women.

Recently, several TVB news anchors allegedly acted out against one of their own. Their petty squabble supposedly resulted in the police being called. Additionally, a former TVB news anchor, Erica Liu (刘芯彤) shared her own experiences of her tenure there.

According to the United Daily News (联合报), the incident occurred between four women. Prior to the incident, two of the perpetrators had supposedly been dissatisfied with the victim. Another colleague who wasn’t involved with the incident claimed they reportedly spoke bitterly of her.

However, things came to head when the victim discovered her things had been tampered with. According to reports, her clothes had been cut up and liquid had been splashed on her stuff. As such, she installed a pinhole camera, hoping to identify the perpetrators. Her endeavour, while successful also came as a shock as she discovered one of her close friends was involved in the bullying. The police were then called in.

The trio apparently took to bullying in an attempt to compete for certain slots in the news anchor schedule. They supposedly came close to being fired. However, one of them admitted to being in the wrong and she was allowed to stay in the department. The other two refused to admit their mistakes and were transferred to other departments.

TVB reportedly claimed that the ‘bullying incident’ was merely a rumour. They denied the case and supposedly alleged that no police report had been made. They did however state that while minor disputes had occurred, it had already been resolved.

Yet, former news anchor Erica Liu stated otherwise. The journalist took to her Facebook to share her experience of how cutthroat other news anchors could be. At that time, Erica had supposedly been rising in the ranks and was close to nabbing a good time slot. One day, she left her glass unattended after finishing her news segment. Later that day, Erica developed a sore throat and her voice became hoarse. She quickly assumed her glass had been tampered with.

“I had a (sore) throat for two weeks,” Erica recalled. “For a rookie who has just entered the station, two weeks could allow your enemy to capture your territory and usurp the seat you took.” She shared that she guessed who had done it, mainly because the person supposedly targeted her again later. Erica firmly believes that one should not resort to such trickery to keep their place in the group. “Fortunately, I recognised (it) and quit early,” she remarked.

Talk about drama! It’s certainly sad to think that there are people willing to use others as stepping stones in life, no matter the cost. Well, hopefully people think twice before acting out again!
