On 19th November 2024 (Tuesday), Hong Kong broadcasting station TVB held its 57th-anniversary gala show (万千星辉贺台庆). The show is a highly anticipated annual event featuring all the biggest TVB stars participating in exciting live performances.
Towards the end of the event, all the stars would gather on the main stage to take group photos. As shown in the first photo, veteran star and event host Liza Wang (汪明荃) stood in the centre, with actors Kenneth Ma (馬國明) and Moses Chan (陳豪) standing beside her. The two actors also stood in the front row in another photo taken with TVB executives. Also spotted in the front row were actresses Nancy Wu (胡定欣) and Samatha Ko (高海寧).
A person’s position in a group photo typically won’t garner much attention. However, in the case of TVB stars, standing in the front could imply their status. Many former TVB stars, including actress Natalie Tong (唐詩詠), have admitted that those who stood in the first row in group photos are the most popular. These stars are nicknamed the broadcast company’s “number 1 brothers and sisters”.
Given that Kenneth Ma and Moses Chan were the ones standing closest to Liza and the TVB executives in the centre, it’s safe to say the group photos confirm their position as TVB’s top stars of 2024. Interestingly, there are claims that media and netizens often scrutinise TVB’s group photos. Sure enough, many netizens have shared their opinions about the positioning.

There wasn’t much debate on Kenneth and Moses standing in the centre, indicating that netizens approve of their status. However, some noted that actor Benjamin Yuen (袁偉豪) wasn’t at the front or near the centre, saying his popularity must’ve dropped. On the other hand, fans of Samatha Ko cheered after learning that she stood in the front row, implying that the actress has risen through the ranks and is now a top TVB actress.
Of course, a star’s popularity can’t simply be determined by where they stand in the group photo – but what are your thoughts on this? Do you agree with Kenneth Ma and Moses Chan being the top TVB stars of 2024?
