Fans of authentic Japanese cuisine now have a new dining destination to explore, as Tsukishima Monja Koboreya has officially opened its first outlet in Malaysia, at LaLaport BBCC.
The renowned restaurant brand, which originates from Tokyo’s famous Tsukishima district, celebrated the grand opening of its Kuala Lumpur outlet on 23 June.

The opening ceremony was attended by Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia, Nihei Daisuke, marking a significant milestone for the brand’s expansion into the Malaysian market.
Bringing A Taste Of Tokyo To Malaysia
Tsukishima Monja Koboreya is best known for serving authentic monjayaki, a unique Japanese teppan-style dish that has been a beloved part of Tokyo’s food culture for decades.
Often compared to okonomiyaki, monjayaki features a savoury batter mixed with various ingredients and cooked directly on a hot iron griddle. Its softer, gooier texture and interactive dining experience have made it a favourite among locals and tourists visiting Tsukishima, an area widely regarded as the birthplace of the dish.
With the opening of its first Malaysian outlet, local diners can now experience this iconic Tokyo specialty without having to travel to Japan.
Strengthening Cultural Connections Through Food
In a statement shared by the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia, officials expressed hope that the restaurant’s arrival would introduce more Malaysians to Japan’s rich culinary traditions while further strengthening the friendship and cultural ties between the two nations.
The Embassy also congratulated the team behind Tsukishima Monja Koboreya on the achievement and wished them continued success in the years ahead.
Food has long served as a bridge between cultures, and the introduction of authentic Japanese dining concepts continues to play an important role in deepening mutual appreciation between Malaysia and Japan.
A New Culinary Experience For Malaysian Diners
As Japanese cuisine continues to enjoy immense popularity among Malaysians, the arrival of Tsukishima Monja Koboreya offers something beyond the usual sushi, ramen, and yakiniku experiences.
For adventurous foodies and fans of Japanese street food culture, the restaurant presents an opportunity to discover the flavours and traditions of Tsukishima’s famous monjayaki scene right in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
With its interactive cooking style and deep roots in Tokyo’s culinary heritage, Tsukishima Monja Koboreya’s Malaysian debut is set to become a must-visit destination for Japanese food enthusiasts.
