If you frequent Mid Valley City then you’ve probably noticed this temple within Mid Valley Megamall. Sri Maha Sakthi Mohambigai Amman Temple has existed in that specific location for 100 years and was supposed to be relocated during the mall’s development.

However, strange things were said to have happened in the area during the relocating process and that’s when it was decided that the temple should remain in its place but how much of this story is true? Here’s what we know:

Recently, a netizen named Andrew Sia posted a photo of the temple on his Facebook profile along with an urban legend. As mentioned, it was said that the temple was supposed to be relocated to another location after the land was acquired by IGB Corp Bhd. “But the temple god said, ‘Let me stay here and I will bring business to you,’ so the story goes,” he wrote.

Many believe that it was the temple’s divine blessing that has brought success to Mid Valley Megamall since it’s still flourishing after all these years. The Facebook user suggested that the story could be true since another mall’s business has been doing poorly due to an alleged link to gangsters who attacked the Seafield Indian temple back in 2018.

After the story was posted, some netizens claimed that it was more than an urban legend, saying that they heard stories of construction workers suffering from injuries due to multiple accidents during the temple’s relocation process. This begs the question – is there actually divine wrath and blessing or is this all just an urban legend?

The Star published an article back in 2018 where former Mid Valley managing director M.K Sen explained the real reason why the temple was incorporated into the mall’s development. According to the article, there was no mention of relocating the temple but there was a lot of careful consideration on what should be done before finally deciding that the temple should remain in its place.

“We knew there was something within the temple destined for us to keep. I personally felt like this temple is really part of Mid Valley and we shouldn’t allow it to be separated,” said M.K Sen. Thus, the former managing director convinced the mall’s board of directors to let the temple be a part of the mall’s megastructure.

So there you have it. While there is no concrete evidence to back up the claims of the rumoured misfortunes, there’s certainly something good that came out of keeping the temple within Mid Valley Megamall. Whether it is a divine blessing or strategic location, one can’t deny that the temple has played a role in the mall’s success.
