#TreatYoSelf: Satisfy Your Cravings At These Steamboat Restaurants In Klang Valley

by Estee Ang

Steamboat is the best for all occasions – be it office dinners, family gatherings, or birthday parties. Also known as hot pot in China and Taiwan, steamboat is favoured among most (if not all) Malaysians and is the go-to meal choice on a cold, rainy day.

Don’t know where to go for a satisfying steamboat meal? Fret not, because we’ve compiled a list of the best restaurants in Klang Valley for your next steamboat night.

Check it out:

1. Village BBQ Steamboat @ Puchong (Pork free)

https://www.instagram.com/p/-BjF58RKDl/?taken-at=242029884

Village BBQ Steamboat boasts a massive selection fresh ingredients and is one of the few restaurants in town that provides a mini barbecue pit for each table. If you are a big fan of prawns, there’s a prawn tank in the all-you-can-eat restaurant and patrons are encouraged to personally “fish” live prawns for their meal.

  • Address: No. 1GF & NO.1-1 Jalan Puteri 2/6, 47100 Bandar Puteri Puchong
  • Tel: 012-772 0400
  • Facebook

2. Flaming Steamboat & Buffet @ Setapak (Halal)

Flaming Steamboat & Buffet is a fuss-free, all-you-can-eat restaurant that only charges RM38.80 per person (as of July 2017). From fresh seafood to bouncy fishballs, Flaming’s unique 3-tier steamboat pot allows customers to grill their meats. We also heard that there’s a chocolate fondue at the dessert section. Yummm, nothing can go wrong with chocolate, right? ?

Note: Flaming Steamboat & Buffet has another outlet at Bandar Sunway.

  • Address: 66-0 & 68-0, Platinum Walk. No2, Jalan Langkawi, Danau Kota, Setapak, 53300 Kuala Lumpur
  • Tel: 03-4142 3144

3. Low Maji Steamboat @ OUG

Healthy, delicious, and affordable, Low Maji (which sounds like “mother” in Cantonese) Steamboat is a must-try for all hot pot lovers. Unlike regular steamboat joints, this place puts half of a large winter melon (otherwise known as winter gourd or ash gourd) in a large pot, using it as a cooking vessel. Although this method looks unpractical at first sight, the ingredients cook fairly quickly and the the melon adds a subtle sweetness to the broth while cooking.

Note: Low Maji Steamboat has another outlet at Bandar Puteri Puchong.

  • Address: Lot 1, Citrus Park Food Emporium, Plaza OUG, Jalan Klang Lama, 58200 Taman OUG
  • Tel: 03-7986 0909

4. Coco Steamboat @ Old Klang Road

If pork bone soup is your thing, then Coco Steamboat is bound to satisfy your taste buds. Located along the busy Old Klang Road, the popular restaurant is best known for its signature white pork bone broth and fresh ingredients. And that’s not all! Be sure to wash your meal down with Coco’s sweet and refreshing sugarcane, carrot, and couch grass root herbal tea. You won’t regret it 🙂

  • Address: Batu 3/4, 1, 4, Jalan Kuchai Lama, Taman United, 58200 Kuala Lumpur
  • Tel: 03-7980 1538
  • Website | Facebook

5. Soi 19 Thai Steamboat & BBQ @ Kuchai Lama

While Tomyam has always been a steamboat staple, Soi 19 Thai Steamboat & BBQ uses Chang Beer as one of the ingredients for its delicious Jim jom (otherwise known as Chim chum), which is somewhat like a Thai-style mini hot pot. Besides that, the popular joint also offers Mookata (Thai barbeque steamboat) and an array of Thai dishes such as Kao Pad Moo (pork fried rice), Kor Moo Yang (grilled pork neck rice), and Moo Sam Chan Tod (deep fried pork belly).

  • Address: 21, Jalan 1a/114, Kuchai Business Centre, 58200 Kuala Lumpur
  • Tel: 017-699 0889

Originated from Taiwan, Chunciou Hot Pot just opened a couple of months ago and it is now one of the busiest steamboat joints in town. The ala carte buffet-style restaurant offers 6 types of broths – sukiyaki, tonkotsu (pork bone), “ma la” (spicy), herbal, lake salt, and tom yam – and a wide selection of meats to choose from. As the place is filled with oriental-inspired furnitures and decoration, you will feel like you’re dining at a Chinese palace.

Note: It costs RM75++ (as of July 2017) per person and customers are only given a 2-hour dining time.

  • Address: 306, Batu, 3, Jalan Klang Lama, 58000 Kuala Lumpur
  • Tel: 018-375 6368

This includes superior pork bone (highly recommended!), Szechuan pepper, Teochew, ABC, vegetarian, peppery pig stomach soup, tom yam, and clear soup. Aside from the usual steamboat ingredients, Popo also serves mouthwatering dishes such as fried fish skin, deep fried dumplings, and Hong Kong-style chicken wings.
