Fans are growing concerned for rock icon Bonnie Tyler’s health. According to a recent statement from her team, the Welsh singer is currently in a coma after undergoing an emergency surgery.
Earlier this week, the singer was rushed to a hospital near her home in Faro, Portugal, for an emergency intestinal surgery. Reports say the surgery was to treat a perforated intestine. Her team then shared an update via her website, noting the surgery went well and that Bonnie is recuperating. However, on Thursday (7th May 2026), her team revealed that the singer is now in a coma.

The update writes, “Bonnie has been put into an induced coma by her doctors to aid her recovery. We know that you all wish her well and ask for privacy at this difficult time, please. We will issue a further statement when we are able to.” As of now, it’s unclear why doctors have placed the star into an induced coma. Nevertheless, fans have been sharing their love and support for Bonnie, wishing the 74-year-old a quick recovery.
According to her current schedule, Bonnie will perform several shows later this month, including a music festival in Malta on 22nd May. She also has more than two dozen shows scheduled throughout 2026 as part of her “Jubilee Tour”. The last show of the tour will take place on 17th December in her home country of Wales. However, the tour dates will likely be affected due to her health issues.
A prominent figure in the soft rock genre, Bonnie made her debut in the music scene in 1976. She’s best known for her power ballad “Total Eclipse Of The Heart”, which was penned and produced by Jim Steinman. Since its release in 1983, the song has sold more than six million copies worldwide and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. The track has also passed the billion streams mark on Spotify.
As there isn’t much known about Bonnie’s situation at the moment, we can only wish for a smooth recovery for the singer. Let’s hope she’ll be back on stage soon to sing for her adoring fans.
