Becoming a parent and welcoming your little one to the world is a beautiful experience – but it can also come with hardships, particularly for the mother. Hong Kong-based model and entertainer Inez Leong (梁諾妍) recently gave birth to her second child. Unfortunately, it also brought her a lot of pain after her confinement period.
Inez, who is married to Hong Kong actor Tony Hung (洪永城), gave birth to her second daughter at the end of March. She subsequently went into a confinement period of 30 days to recover and only recently completed her confinement. However, towards the end of the 30 days, Inez became seriously ill with a high fever. The 36-year-old shared her experience through several postings on Instagram Stories.
According to Inez, she had a high fever for four consecutive days, with temperatures reaching 39.2 degrees. She added that she also had terrible body aches and would get chills in the middle of the night. However, Inez said she was sure she didn’t contract any virus as her at-home test came out negative. The mother of two said she continued to be baffled by the sudden fever until a friend explained that she may have mastitis.
Mastitis is an inflammation of the breast tissue that is common among breastfeeding women. It typically occurs when the milk duct isn’t drained regularly, causing congestion. The common symptoms of mastitis include high fever, body aches and chills – all of which Inez had. Sure enough, when the model visited the doctor for her fever, she was diagnosed with mastitis and had to be hospitalized for three days. She even had to undergo a minor surgery to drain the pus from her milk ducts.
As for how she could’ve gotten mastitis, Inez said it could have been because she wasn’t pumping out her milk enough. She explained she had been rather busy lately and would even ignore the pain she felt in her chest. Inez then told her fellow mothers to learn from her experience, sharing tips to avoid mastitis, including pumping regularly and consuming the proper diet.
It must’ve been scary for Inez to face all that pain without knowing why. Thankfully, she’s recovering well – but we hope her experience will be a good reminder for all new mothers.
