The toll hike is believed to be based on the latest agreement between the Malaysian government and the 12 toll concessionaires in the country, said Fadillah. “If the toll rates of the four highways are not increased, the government is expected to pay the concessionaires RM59.77 million in compensation,” he told the daily.

The 4 major highways in question include:

  • Kajang-Seremban Highway (Lekas)
  • Guthrie Corridor Expressway (GCE)
  • Johor Baru Eastern Dispersal Link Expressway (EDL)
  • Senai–Desaru Expressway (SDE)

The last major toll increase took place in October last year, affecting more than 10 highways, with an increase between 20 sen and RM3.

Sighs 🙁 Will you be affected by the upcoming increase in toll rates?

UPDATE (4th November, 10:30am):

Phew! You can breathe easily now drivers. The government has confirmed that toll hikes won’t be implemented on the aforementioned 4 highways.

According to a news report by NST, Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the government will fork out RM59.77 million as compensation to the concessionaires. That means there won’t be restructuring of the toll rates for 2016 and 2017.
