Your first job can either turn out to be really good or probably the worst experience you ever had. Luckily for today’s generation, many working adults are more than happy to share their job experiences and provide tips on how to improve one’s performance and secure a better job.

The MalaysianPayGap Instagram page is a platform for many to share their stories and spread awareness on what others should or should not do in their career. One particular story was submitted by a teenager who’s surprisingly making more money than most working adults in their 20s.

Here’s a little info about the MalaysianPayGap Instagram page. The IG page is a platform for mostly adults to share their work experiences anonymously. The only information disclosed are their age, salary, qualifications and current career. The purpose for the page is to break the taboo of discussing one’s salary with another so that more people can become aware that they deserve to be paid fairly.

A recent post is currently going viral with 15.3k likes and almost 600 comments. An anonymous 17-year-old teenage boy from Shah Alam, Selangor submitted his story to MalaysianPayGap sharing that he now earns about RM14k after just 4 months of working as a Backend Engineer for a Fintech Multinational Corporation (MNC).

“I’m grateful that I did well during the technical interview. The best part is the product is widely used in Malaysia which gives me satisfaction of seeing the product being used among our community,” he said. The story of how this 17-year-old is earning RM14k has got netizens flabbergasted. However, most comments have been very supportive for the teenager with some even asked for tips on how to do well as he is.

According to the anonymous post, the boy was previously a senior software engineer in a local startup for 3 months which offered him RM7k monthly. He accepted his new job as there is no micromanagement involved and that he wanted more working experience. He ends his story by offering advice such as attending bootcamps to learn the fundamentals for those wanting to be a software developer.

If you’re wondering if the story is legit, MalaysianPayGap captioned the post saying that the person and his story has been properly verified as he provided the necessary documents to prove he’s telling a true story. Perhaps he could one day share with us if the company is currently hiring?
