Things To Do & Explore While At Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands

by Rachel Chuah

Singapore is known for a great many things, but when it comes to holidaying in luxury, few can beat out Marina Bay Sands. There is a reason why it embodies the phrase “home away from home”. So, if you don’t want to venture too far in Singapore, Marina Bay Sands is the perfect place to be at.

The grand resort offers a comfortable place to nest, good food and entertainment. Still, we know it can get pretty overwhelming at a glance, so since we recently visited Marina Bay Sands, here’s a list of things to do and places to check out while you’re there:

Rooms

While at Marina Bay Sands, you may find yourself out of your room most of the time. It’s not too surprising, there is so much to do and explore— but still, you’ll want to at least be able to return to a comfy, cozy room to relax in. Let Marina Sands Bay take care of that.

We were fortunate enough to spend our stay at the Sands Collection rooms, a part of their ongoing reinvestment project to transform the hotel. As per their standards, the room was primed for pure comfort with a large queen sized bed occupying most of the room in full view of the 75″ television mounted to the wall, with a fully stocked bespoke armoire and cocktail trolley. The bathroom on the other hand was spacious and outfitted with a rain shower, bathtub, and separate bathroom vanities.

Let’s just say that with how busy we got at Marina Bay Sands, coming back to this room was a real relief. We were able to put our feet up, settle in with a cozy cup of tea and enjoy the view from the room via the balcony or just take a hot bath and relax to some peaceful music before tucking ourselves into the soft, fluffy bed. It actually got so comfy that we didn’t want to leave the room! But with loads to explore and do, it didn’t take long for us to get on our feet and get going.

Food

Whether you are a picky eater, or an everything goes gourmand, Marina Bay Sands is the perfect place for both, thanks to it being a food haven. Start your day at RISE with a scrumptious buffet spread or enjoy a sky-high breakfast meal at Spago Bar & Lounge with an overview of Singapore, or by the poolside. And, we’d definitely recommend dropping by Spago Dining Room by Wolfgang Puck to sample their offerings, as you won’t be disappointed.

Of course, there’s more. If you are craving western delights, there’s always the Yardbird Southern Table & Bar or Black Tap Craft Burgers (their shakes are a must by the way). Fulfill your Japanese cuisine cravings at WAKUDA Restaurant & Bar with an atmosphere to vibe and chill to, or drop by the Rasapura Masters food court if you are missing the taste of home.

Places To Explore

As much as we’d love to cover everything there is to do in Marina Bay Sands, we have to limit ourselves to giving you the highlights. It’s sad, we know. But, these picks are still worth paying a visit to for the experience, at least once.

1. Spectra

This 15-minute water and light show is definitely a sight to behold. as it dazzles and entertains visitors at the waterfront promenade. With the fountains pulsing along to the beat of the music, this show draws quite the crowd every time, so either be there before it starts or be prepared to vie for space to get a good view.

2. ArtScience Museum

Explore the ArtScience Museum at your own leisure as you take in the curated exhibits, with some works leaving you breathless with wonder while others urge you to join the fun. And after all that exploring, you might want to swing by JJ Lin’s Miracle Coffee flagship cafe to relax for a bit and soak in the atmosphere before heading out.

3. Digital Light Canvas by teamLab

If you like arts and crafts, or just need to destress, Digital Light Canvas is definitely something worth paying a visit to, especially for the kiddies. Little ones will be dazzled by the giant floor screen showcasing their coloured-in drawings and most will appreciate being able to take away their creations as souvenirs.

4. Sampan Rides

Take a boat ride without having to venture far as a sampan ride is easily available in the heart of the mall. You will delight in a leisurely ride along the Canal, with shops and visitors lining the sides. The highlight will, of course, be the Rain Oculus, an eco-friendly art and sustainability installation that collects rainwater to fill the Canal. If you manage to catch the Rain Oculus mid-ride, it’ll certainly add a splash to your trip!

Well, we certainly hope your time in Marina Bay Sands at Singapore will be as charming and fun-filled as it was for us. There’s no denying that there is still much to do and explore around the resort, but that only adds to the adventures you could be having while there. We’ll definitely be adding Marina Bay Sands to our list for further explorations!
