The interwebs have been freaking out all week over “news” that “The Simpsons” lead characters Homer and Marge are headed for cartoon divorce court, a revelation that snowballed into countless tweets and Facebook rants from fans who are in disbelief.
Will one of TV entertainment’s most powerful couple be breaking up after nearly 3 decades of marriage in the upcoming 27th season of “The Simpsons”?
Apparently not, and “The Simpsons” executive producer Al Jean, who apparently caused the confusion in the first place, has taken it upon himself to dismiss the report. He took to Twitter to suggest that his comments have been misinterpreted online:

Previously, Al Jean told Variety in an exclusive interview that one of the plot points for the new season is Springfield’s power couple (aka Homer and Marge) splitting and the introducion of a new love interest.
He was quoted as saying:
In the premiere, it’s discovered after all the years Homer has narcolepsy and it’s an incredible strain on the marriage. Homer and Marge legally separate, and Homer falls in love with his pharmacist, who’s voiced by Lena Dunham. We’ll have cameos from the other women from “Girls”. We have an episode coming up where Lisa befriends a homeless woman who turns out to be an incredible singer. The woman’s voiced by Kate McKinnon, but the singing is done by Natalie Maines.
But all is well in the town of Springfield as the rumour turned out to be untrue.

Why did Al Jean say that, then? Well, to be fair, since Al Jean also mentioned that Homer will discover that he has narcolepsy, a chronic sleep disorder that causes overwhelming sleepiness, the “legal separation” could be happening in a dream/nightmare. Hence, in one episode only!
And if that’s not enough, Homer and Marge’s only son, Bart Simpson, has also taken to Twitter to debunk the divorce/break up rumours.

Meanwhile, what we do know for sure is that the upcoming 27th season of the show will feature Bart getting murdered (gasp!). But again, don’t freak out just yet because that’ll happen in a Halloween episode that will take place outside the show’s continuity.
Oh, and also, a special appearance of a fan-favourite character from “The Simpsons Movie”, Homer’s beloved Spider-Pig 😀
