Last year, RapidKL announced on their social media that they have begun the process of installing the women’s coaches stickers and operational testing at MRT Kajang Line. This was part of the Transport Ministry’s initiatives to provide a more comfortable environment for women when travelling as many do not feel safe during peak hours.

Although the women were happy about the installation, some (male) netizens slammed RapidKL for not prioritising the train frequency issues that have been going on. With that in mind, how would people react after it was announced that another MRT line will also have the women’s coaches stickers installed? Let’s find out:

Last night (Wednesday, 20th March), RapidKL released a notice on their social media pages that they would soon begin the process of installing the women’s coaches stickers and operational testing at MRT Putrajaya Line. The process is expected to be completed by 30th March of this year.

Just like the previous announcement, comments from women were mostly positive with many thanking them for giving a designated space to ensure their safety. However, there were also netizens who disagreed with this policy. As seen in the comments below, some felt the ladies-only coaches were unnecessary, claiming that women passengers would still prefer to occupy the coaches at each end of the MRT.

Others said that the coaches on the MRT Kajang Line have made travelling during peak hours more inconvenient for everyone, especially since the frequency issue has yet to be resolved. A few suggested that RapidKL implement men-only coaches to make it “fair”.

There were also those who suggested that each MRT station should assign a female auxiliary police officer to make sure that the ladies-only coaches are fully occupied so that the passengers won’t take up so much space in the other coaches. Just like before, this is only a trial period so changes could be made depending on feedback.

Perhaps RapidKL and the Minister of Transportation should look into the recent and last year’s feedback to ensure passengers are satisfied with the services before implementing new policies. What do you think?
