Uh oh, looks like another food franchise bites the dust. This time it’s The Loaf bakery bistro.
Owned by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, all 12 outlets in Malaysia (including Telaga Harbour Langkawi, Avenue K, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, Empire Shopping Gallery, and Sogo) officially closed down yesterday (Thusday, 12th April).
The Loaf was launched in 2006 and has been in the business for 12 years. That’s quite an impressive feat. Best known for producing expensive bakery products and pastries, M&M Consolidated Sdn Bhd (the company that managed The Loaf) stated that financial losses over the past few years and stiff competition were the main reasons for its closure.
A closure notice posted on the Sogo KL outlet reads:
“I know this is not the only branch that has been affected as branches in KLCC, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur and other locations have all simultaneously shuttered on the same day. The closure came as a surprise because business was good but I believe many know who runs the company.”
