The entertainment world has lost another brilliant talent. American actor James Ransone, best known for his work in the series “The Wire” and the movie “It Chapter Two”, has passed away. He was 46.
News outlets reported that James passed away on 19th December 2025 (Friday). He was reportedly found unconscious by officers from the Los Angeles Police Department who responded to a call to a residence. Information from the Los Angeles medical examiner indicated that the actor died from hanging, implying that he committed suicide. No foul play was suspected.

James began his career acting in minor roles in film and television before getting his big break in the HBO series, “The Wire”, playing Ziggy Sobotka. He would later go on to act in several movies and series, including “Inside Man”, “Sinister”, “Generation Kill” and “Treme”. He’s also known for playing adult Eddie Kaspbrak in “It Chapter Two”, appearing alongside Bill Hader, James McAvoy and Jessica Chastain.
Off-screen, James dealt with a history of substance abuse and was also a victim of sexual abuse. In May 2021, he revealed that his former math tutor, Timothy Rualo, sexually abused him in 1992. He said the abuse was a factor in the alcohol and heroin addictions he later grappled with. James reported the abuse in 2020, but authorities declined to pursue criminal charges. The actor also previously hinted at issues with his mental health.
Many stars and prominent figures in the entertainment industry shared tributes following James’ death. Director Spike Lee, who worked with the actor in “Inside Man” and “Red Hook Summer”, and actress Mya Taylor, who co-starred with James in “Tangerine”, were among those who mourned the talent through social media. Fans also shared tributes, remembering many of James’ past works.
According to reports, James is survived by his wife and their son. We extend our condolences to his family and loved ones. May they find strength during this difficult time, and may he rest in peace.
