The Bahrain Grand Prix was originally scheduled to take place in Sakhir in April but was postponed due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. As the race was unable to take place in Bahrain, Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit is set to host the event instead.
Marking Formula 1’s first visit to Malaysia in nine years, more than half of the current grid have never raced at Sepang in Formula 1. Max Verstappen won the last Malaysian Grand Prix in 2017.
Kimi Antonelli arrives in Malaysia with a 66-point lead in the Drivers’ Championship following his fifth-place finish in Azerbaijan. His Mercedes teammate George Russell won the race in Baku, reducing the gap between the two title contenders.
