Everyone has a unique love language. And while they are typically brought up when discussing intimacy and care between romantic partners, love languages extend far beyond that. They can help you understand how someone cares for their friends, family members and loved ones.
In the past, we’ve discussed the cutest comic-book film couples out there and compared Malaysian leaders to characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) . Get a little closer to our heroes as we break down the love languages of the new members of the “Multiverse Saga”. So without further ado, here’s how members of the new Avengers team show their love in their own special way!
1. Thor Odinson: Physical Touch
While the God of Thunder probably saw quite a bit of action in his younger days, we’re not necessarily talking about just scoring. Thor comes from a culture of warriors and it can be hard for him to connect with people verbally. Rather, he’s someone who really values physical touch and expressions of love and friendship. Whether it’s just holding his mother’s hands once more, cradling his brother’s as he dies (or pretends to) or sharing a long kiss with an ex, it’s clear Thor places great value in being physically connected to people. In a life full of loss and heartbreak, it makes sense that Thor would desire to hold the ones he cares for so closely.
2. Captain America (Sam Wilson): Acts of Service
Sam Wilson didn’t have to take up the mantle of Captain America. He didn’t have to continue the fight for Steve Rogers but he did. Whether they ask for it or not, he will show up to help and defend his loved ones, just like how he helped his sister Sarah Wilson when she was having trouble with the family boat in “Falcon and the Winter Soldier”. Falcon is someone who will do everything in his power to help a friend in need. He also challenges people to do right by others and find better ways to serve people. He’s the faithful companion, loyal brother and righteous leader you can rely on.
3. Doctor Strange: Words of Affirmation
By no means are we saying that the Sorcerer Supreme is all talk and no action, but it’s clear that Stephen Strange is a very busy man. Whether as a brilliant neurosurgeon or as a Master of the Mystic Arts, Doctor Strange has always had trouble finding time to make himself available to others. He’s either off saving the universe or helping some kid rewrite reality. There are so many things he wished he could have said to Christine but unfortunately, that ship has passed. Still, he’s learning to open his heart up to others by being an encouraging mentor and friend to America Chavez. He’d make a great dad and soccer coach.
4. Hawkeye: Quality Time
Well, this one’s a no-brainer, Clint Barton is a family man through and through. Whenever he needs to recharge after a rough day of battling aliens, monsters and criminals, he comes home to his wife and kids in the woods. It is his safe haven and where he’s able to simply be present with his loved ones and spend time with them. We’ve seen what Hawkeye was like when that was taken away from him, a restless avenging killer with no peace. Ultimately, Clint isn’t fighting for things like fame, glory or even universal balance, he just wants to make a safer world for himself and his family.
5. Shang Chi: Quality Time
Just like Hawkeye, Shang Chi knows the importance of family and friends. In spite of the fact of he’s had a rather scarred childhood and a troubled family history, Shang Chi has managed to make his own way in the world with his best friend, Katy. While the two have yet to form a romantic relationship, it’s clear that all the master of the ten rings wishes to do is to hang out with his buddies, go out for a night of karaoke and just have a good time overall. Whether on the battlefield or joy-riding with other people’s cars, Shang Chi would rather have a friend beside him than not.
6. Captain Marvel: Words of Affirmation
Believe it or not, words have power. They can build someone up, tear them down or even dictate their entire identity. Carol Danvers’ Captain Marvel is more than aware of this when she spent years being brainwashed by Yon-Rogg and the Kree Empire. What helped her to free her mind were the words of her mentor Mar-Vell and the kind words of her friend Maria Rambeau. She would later pay it forward by being an inspiration to Maria’s daughter, Monica Rambeau. Sometimes, the right words are all you need in loving others better and in helping them be their best selves!
7. War Machine: Quality Time
Through thick and thin, James Rhodes the War Machine is one of the rare souls willing to put up with all of Tony Stark’s bullshit. He was there when Tony decided to become an armoured superhero, he knocked some sense into him in “Iron Man 2” and even fought alongside him during “Captain America: Civil War”. Sure he doesn’t get as much screen time as the other more popular folks on this list but he’s someone who seems to always make time for his self-destructive, knucklehead of a friend.
8. Spider-Man: Act of Service
You know what’s a really sweet and romantic gesture: asking a wizard to literally rewrite reality and possibly destroy all of space and time so you and your girlfriend can be together. Now, that’s how you do it, guys! Peter might not exactly be the smartest guy but he’s got a big heart. He’s always willing to make the hard choices, when he’s not making dumb ones, to ensure that the people he loves have the best possible life. At the end of the day, he’d rather have MJ forget he ever existed to keep her safe than risk her life by being with her. In our opinion, that’s pretty heartbreaking and beautiful.
9. Black Panther (Shuri): Gifts
Shuri and T’Challa have always been close as siblings. Yes, she will pull pranks on the older Black Panther and tease him to no end but it cannot be denied that she loves her brother. She often expresses her care for her sibling through the love language of gifts. She uses her mastery over technology and Vibranium to create technological wonders and gadgets for her brother. We also notice that she cherishes gifts such as when Namor offered her a beautiful bracelet when he took her down to Talokan. Whoever out there is looking for a way to Shuri’s heart, they best start inventing!
10. Ant-Man (Scott Lang): Quality Time
We close out the list with yet another loving family man, Scott Lang. During his disappearance for five years, he lost the chance to see his precious little girl, Cassie grow up. Now in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania”, that’s all the hero wants. A second chance to be there for his daughter through the years and to be family with Hope Van Dyne. He’s even willing to strike a deal with the villainous Kang the Conqueror to achieve this end. Hopefully, they’ll stay a family by the end of the film.
