Taiwanese host Mickey Huang (黃子佼) went from respect to despised in just a matter of months after he was exposed in a sexual harassment scandal last year. While he continued to become the target of public condemnation for almost a year, one individual seemed to have stuck by his side through it all – his wife, Summer Meng (孟耿如). However, is there a reason for her loyalty?
Mickey is one of the major figures in the Taiwanese #MeToo movement and was recently accused of purchasing explicit material featuring underage girls. At this point, the 52-year-old’s reputation is beyond repair – but his wife continues to support him and they are still happily together. Summer even spoke about his scandal, saying the couple would overcome the issue together.
Given the severity of the accusations against Mickey, it’s expected that the Taiwanese actress would at the least be emotionally affected. However, despite the public advising Summer to divorce her husband, the star made no move to split with Mickey. Recently, it was reported that the potential reason for her sticking by Mickey was because she was paid to by the star himself.
According to China Press, there is a rumour that Mickey had recently paid a settlement worth NT$100 million (approximately RM15 million) towards Summer. It is believed the settlement was for Summer to stay with him and even avoid mentioning divorce within the next three years. This could explain why the 33-year-old actress could remain married to the public figure even after his back-to-back scandals.
Unfortunately, neither Mickey nor Summer have responded to this claim. On the other hand, some netizens have speculated that the reason why Summer isn’t divorcing Mickey is because of her dependency towards him. After the two married in 2020, Summer began moving away from the entertainment industry to focus on building a family with her husband. Before his scandals, Mickey is believed to be the breadwinner of his family, supporting him, Summer and their young daughter.
