If you’re an avid Instagram user, you’ll know about it’s latest function. That’s right, we’re talking about Instagram Notes. So far, most people have just been playing around with it. Some use it for announcements, some use it to cheekily tease their friends, some hold full-on conversations! The feature has become quite popular since its global launch on December 13 this year.
As it turns out, Instagram Notes has unintentionally served another function. It managed to help this Taiwanese girl catch her boyfriend cheating on her! To make matters worse, he was cheating on her with their mutual friend.
According to the post she made on D-card, she thanked Instagram Notes for “making (her) single again“. The girl shared that she had suspected her boyfriend of infidelity for a long time now. “I’ve always thought that he was really close with our mutual friend from college. But (it was) just a doubt,” she stated. The girl made it clear she hadn’t purposefully investigated the issue. However, the matter still came to light, thanks to Instagram Notes.
It apparently started when her former boyfriend started sending innocuous notes. They were things like: “So hungry, what to eat (tonight)?”, “Any recommended places for (a run)?” and “Sometimes it’s cold and I want to have a drink.” She shared that she would usually ignore them or send an emoji to respond. But, it wasn’t until she glanced at the notes that she caught on to their game.
As she was following both the girl and her soon-to-be-ex-boyfriend on Instagram, she noticed something odd. The two of them were actually having a conversation through the notes! “For example, when my boyfriend asks what to eat for dinner, the girl will write a note saying: “I want to eat skewered hot pot steak,”” she explained.
“One really impressed me. The girl wrote that the starry sky tonight was very beautiful. My boyfriend responded: “No matter how beautiful it is, it’s not as beautiful as you.”” she said. At that time, she hadn’t thought much of it, as her ex-boyfriend often described his motorcycle as beautiful.
“When they got together afterwards, I felt very hurt,” the girl shared. “I didn’t expect these two to be so arrogant. They really wanted to have an affair so any form was fine…” Netizens were mostly sympathetic, with a few consoling the girl, and telling her she would eventually find someone better.
Well, we’re certainly sorry she had to find out this way. Hopefully, her next boyfriend will be better for her. In the meantime, we suppose she can broadcast her new single status with Instagram Notes. Who knows, it might help her out again!
