People tend to get offended over the most insignificant things these days. Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman felt pressured to delete a photo of himself, following negative criticism from netizens online.
Was it offensive? It was merely a shirtless snapshot of himself sitting in a white bathtub. Apparently a number of people think it’s inappropriate for someone of his status to expose his well-defined abs.
The Youth and Sports Minister was seen soaking himself in ice cold water to relief muscle pain and soreness. It’s a common practice amongst athletes to use this healing method after intensive training or a competition.
“Dipping myself in ice after scoring a golden goal. Good game,” the 25-year-old captioned the now-deleted picture. Reports say that Malaysia’s youngest minister had taken part in a friendly football match on 13th October (Saturday), which was also Hari Sukan Negara 2018.
“Is this the kind of example you want set to youngsters? Is this what Malaysia wants in a leader? I feel that there’s no need to post such a photo in social media,” someone tweeted, while another wrote on Facebook that taking a picture “without a shirt and show around in the public – that is wrong, plus he’s a young minister, he must behave like one.. This is not US or any other free country.. Malaysia has limits“.
Facebook user Lee does not agree with the backlash, saying, “What’s the hoo ha???????? He’s a sports minister and he took part in a game and now relaxing in a pool of ice….he has a great body and he’s fit. He’s not naked!”
Kalvin Chan on Facebook concurred, suggesting, “People need to stop being so holier-than-thou over petty matters like this. It’s his life, his social media, and his way of expressing himself. Nothing wrong with that or what he posted. Cut him some slack, focus on his incredible work rate and performance instead.”
