Hollywood continues to mourn the passing of “Dawson’s Creek” actor James Van Der Beek, who passed away earlier this week from colorectal cancer. As a show of support, many stars are now lending a hand to help out his family during this difficult time.
Shortly after James’ passing, friends of the family started a GoFundMe page to raise money to support his wife, Kimberly, and their six children. The money will help cover essential living expenses, pay bills, and support the children’s education. James previously admitted that his cancer treatments put a strain on his finances.

Thankfully, it seems that his family won’t have to face uncertainties in their future. A day after the GoFundMe campaign went live, it raised over USD2 million (approximately RM7.8 million). Notably, many renowned celebrities have also contributed to the fundraiser, offering help to their late peer’s family.
One of the celebrities who donated to the campaign is director Steven Spielberg. Together with his wife, Kate Capshaw, the filmmaker donated USD25,000 (approximately RM97,400). The couple are the second-highest contributor to the campaign, after an anonymous donor who donated USD30,000 (RM116,800).

Actress Zoe Saldana also made a generous donation, pledging USD2,500 (approximately RM9,740) every month. According to reports, director Jon M. Chu and television personalities Ricki Lake and Derek Hough also contributed to the fundraiser, joining over 40,000 other donors.
James’ family have expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support, saying it reminds them that the actor’s spirit continues to bring people together. At the same time, fans continue to pay tribute to the star and his legacy.
