Vaping is rapidly gaining traction among youngsters, raising growing concerns among the authorities and health experts alike.
Beyond the alarming presence of synthetic drugs in certain vape products, many devices are also now deliberately designed to resemble everyday items, making them easier to conceal from parents, teachers and even law enforcement.

According to National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) Sarawak Assistant Director of Treatment, Medical and Rehabilitation Ahmad Fikri Arif Muhamad Fuat, modern vape devices have become increasingly difficult to identify as a potential danger due to their sleek designs, appealing scents and wide variety of flavours.
As a result, many young users perceive vaping as a safer alternative to traditional cigarettes, despite the risks involved.
“However, there are vapes that are misused with a mixture of psychoactive substances and synthetic drugs that can lead to addiction and affect the mental and emotional health of users, especially teenagers,” he said in an interview session with Sarawak Information Department (JAPEN Sarawak).
“Stealth Vaping”
The trend of “stealth vaping”, or disguising vape devices as pens, watches; USB drives and more, has become a challenge for parents and schools alike.

Due to this, Ahmad Fikri Arif emphasised that AADK will continue to strengthen awareness and prevention efforts through collaborations with schools, communities and other related agencies.
He also urged the public to take the issue of vaping seriously as it can affect the health, education and the future of the younger generation.
“Don’t consider vaping just a current trend. Say no to vaping and drugs for a more prosperous future,” he added.
