According to TechCrunch, a list containing hundreds of Spotify account details, including emails, usernames, passwords, account type, and other details, were posted in a website called Pastebin on Saturday, 23rd April. The media outlet confirmed that some of the leaked account details were legit.

However, the music streaming app denies that it had been hacked and it’s “user records are secure”.

Many users confirmed that they did experience a series of strange activities happening in the past few days. Some users got kicked out of the app even in the middle of streaming music while others found that their e-mails had been changed to unknown new e-mail addresses.

“I suspected my account had been hacked last week as I saw ‘recently played’ songs that I’d never listened to, so I changed my password and logged out of all devices,” said a Spotify user to TechCrunch.

In an official follow-up statement, Spotify responded, “Spotify has not been hacked and our user records are secure. We monitor Pastebin and other sites regularly. When we find Spotify credentials, we first verify that they are authentic, and if they are, we immediately notify affected users to change their passwords.”

Hopefully the music service can speed up the process and verify the account credentials before it gets too complicated.
