The “Spider-Verse” franchise has proven to be a global success, with fans eagerly anticipating the final instalment, “Beyond the Spider-Verse”, which is set for release in 2027. While some expressed disappointment over the delay, many were understanding, preferring the studio not to rush the project if it meant delivering a well-crafted story.
Still, this means fans will be without new content for a while. However, the wait might be worth it, as news is circulating that a spin-off from the franchise is currently in development, suggesting that fans may not have to wait too long to enjoy both upcoming films. Here’s what we know so far about the “Spider-Punk” film:
1. Daniel Kaluuya is involved in the project

According to Deadline, Sony Pictures Animation is currently developing a spin-off to the “Spider-Verse” films, with Spider-Punk (Hobie Brown) as the central character. British actor Daniel Kaluuya is expected to reprise his role as the Spider-Man variant from Earth-138, and he is reportedly co-writing the feature alongside Primetime writer Ajon Singh.
2. Plot still under development

Plot details are currently under wraps, but the possibility of an origin story, or a prequel set before the events of “Across the Spider-Verse”, cannot be ruled out. The spin-off could also be a standalone film taken from the comics with no connections to the main “Spider-Verse” story.
3. Release date

The release date for the film has yet to be confirmed, but fans are hopeful that the gap between “Beyond the Spider-Verse” and the spin-off won’t be too long. However, it’s worth noting that the film may take longer than expected to complete, as it was previously revealed that Spider-Punk’s 6 minutes of screen time in “Across the Spider-Verse” took 3 years to animate.
Still, with the rapid advancement of technology, it’s possible that animators may find ways to streamline the process or even adopt a different animation approach while still staying true to the character’s unique art style.
