They are turning the highly publicised Sony Pictures hack into a what?!
A docu-movie. Yup, it’s true.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project will be helmed by Jehane Noujaim and Karim Amer, the team who made the 2013 Oscar-nominated and multiple Emmy award-winning documentary, “The Square”, which chronicled the 2011 Egyptian Revolution.
The Sony hack happened last year, when hackers “Guardians of Peace” aka #GOP weasled their way into and shut down Sony’s servers. After which, they demanded that the movie studio pull “The Interview”, a Seth Rogen and James Franco comedy depicting a fictional CIA plot to kill North Korea’s leader, which led people to believe that North Korea was behind the unlawful intrusion.
#GOP then released over 170,000 emails and 30,000 documents in apparent retaliation.
The movie is expected to explore alternative theories as to who actually hacked Sony, shut down their servers, and leaked massive troves of emails from high-ranking executives like former Sony Pictures chief Amy Pascal. Apparently, the duo were already working on a documentary about international cyberattacks when the Sony story began unfolding, and they decided to use that hack – one of the largest and most damaging in corporate history – as an entry point for a broader look at the phenomenon of cyber aggression.

The Sony story is an important chapter in this larger issue. The analysts and experts we speak to see it as the 9/11 of cyberattacks, and the implications will be felt for years to come.
No further details were released about the production of the docu-movie as of yet but hmm, we wonder which major studio is going to give this one a go though. Sony Pictures, perhaps?
