For most of us, being popular is something we greatly desire. After all, it does seem as though the popular ones get everything in life! And that certainly seemed to be the case for Chinese girl group SNH48 member Shen Mengyao (沈梦瑶). Unfortunately, she recently discovered that not everything was well in the candy floss of life.
The 24-year-old singer has always captivated her audience with her skills in performing on stage. As such, it was no surprise when she won the company’s annual competition. Her win nabbed her the lead in a new drama. However, Mengyao recently shared that there were scenes in said drama that left her very uncomfortable!
Mengyao had been over the moon upon receiving her new role in the drama. But, that apparently changed after she filmed the drama. Upset, Mengyao decided to share the issue with her followers via her socials this morning (14th December). “I didn’t expect (the drama) to be so oppressive because of these plots,” she lamented.
According to the artist, there had been sexually suggestive scenes and scenes involving drugs in the drama. Mengyao explained that she hadn’t known what to be prepared for as she had never watched the genre of series before. In fact, it wasn’t until that she had to film the scenes that she felt “psychologically uncomfortable”.
There was also supposedly a scene where her character was supposed to be drugged by the male lead. “Although I didn’t shoot (the scene) and (while I do) think film and television dramas are just fantasy, this aspect of of it will (always) be (dark for me),” she stated. Additionally, Mengyao claimed that frequent attempts had supposedly been made to appease her, such as finding different ways for her to film the scene. But, the plot itself was not touched.
Mengyao shared that the thought of simply leaving the drama had crossed her mind. However, she had decided against it as she did not want to cause others trouble. Still, she was very disappointed by everything. “I didn’t expect the people who protected me to actually be the people who have almost no relationship with me,” she said before adding. “This kind of script is actually the first prize.”
The artist also shared that the results of the filming had gotten worse with every attempt to communicate with the company. “Since everyone is unhappy now, then I don’t have to pretend (anymore),” she stated. “It’s so frustrating!”
We can certainly understand Mengyao’s thoughts on the matter. Hopefully, Mengyao will be able to find a drama that suits her better in the future.
