Saturday (28th January) was a pretty eventful day. Not only did K-pop fans go wild when their favourite idols took the stage at the SEEN Festival in Axiata Area, but many also attended to see Oscar-winning Indian composer AR Rahman at the “AR Rahman – Secret of Success: Live in Malaysia 2023” concert.

The renowned musician rocked the stage by performing many of his hits including “Jai Ho”’ and “Oh Sayo” from the 2018 hit movie “Slumdog Millionaire”. But probably one of the most talked about moments during the show was when guest artist Dato Siti Nurhaliza went onstage to perform a song nobody expected.

At one point during the concert, AR Rahman introduced Malaysia’s no.1 singer Dato Siti Nurhaliza to the audience where he also revealed that the powerhouse vocalist herself has learned a Tamil song for the show. The legendary singer thanked the Indian artist for the opportunity before she proceed to sing her rendition of “Munbe Vaa” from the 2006 movie “Sillunu Oru Kaadhal”.

From the video posted by the 44-year-old herself later that night, we can see that the audience screamed with excitement as soon as the superstar started singing the first few lines of the first verse. “I was so nervous at that moment but so happy!” she captioned the video. Knowing the award-winning artist, it was without a doubt that she would blow everyone’s mind with her powerful vocals singing a song in a different language.

The lyric soprano proved to us once again why she remains as Malaysia’s no.1 singer after receiving a standing ovation for her performance last night. Many, especially Indian fans, applaud the singer for flawlessly singing a 6-minute Tamil song. The comments section was flooded with praise for her on-point pronunciation.

Siti Nurhaliza sure knows how to bring people of all races together as this isn’t the first time she sang a song in another language. Other than Malay, English, and now Tamil, the Malaysian legend has also sung in Chinese on several occasions. Last year, the mother-of-two previously sang the Mandarin version of “Kita Satu Keluarga” and prior to that, she also sang “The Moon Represents My Heart” (月亮代表我的心) by the legendary Teresa Tang.
