A male TikToker has sparked a major outcry and anger from netizens for claiming that the lyrics of Dato’ Sri Siti Nurhaliza’s evergreen Hari Raya song, “Sesuci Lebaran”, are toxic.
In his video, the individual argued that the lyrics which reads, “Bantulah miskin hina”, was insulting to some, particularly the poor community. This prompted famed songwriter Ahmad Fedtri Yahya to offer his explanations on the exact meaning behind the alleged “offensive” lyrics.
As revealed by Fedtri in a video posted on his TikTok account, “The word ‘miskin hina’ doesn’t give the meaning that we’re despising the poor. But instead, (the phrase) shows that the poor people are (of) lower (status) than the rich people. Even when we are praying, we need to humble ourselves before God when asking for His guidance, His help, or even for His forgiveness.”
At the same time, the “Jejak Rasul” host also called for the public to read more in order to expand their vocabulary as well as their comprehension skills, particularly on the meaning of idiomatic expressions in the Malay language. Fedtri said, “Therefore, you have to read more, because the Malay language has a lot of meaning, allusions and philosophy behind each and every word.”
