We often hear that women need to be cautious, even with people they know. Unfortunately, 27-year-old Yuki Koh Chea Ling (许佳玲)’s recent murder only drives that point home.
On 18th December, bar singer Yuki Koh was discovered to have been murdered in a back ally at Jalan Bayu Tinggi 5, Taman Chi Liung in Klang. Reportedly, she was murdered by someone she knew, who had feelings for her.
The incident took place around 2pm, reportedly after she had lunch with the suspect. According to the police, the man had attacked her with a knife after they left the restaurant and arrived at the car. Yuki Koh sustained multiple stab wounds, including a fatal stab to her heart.
“After the murder, the suspect moved the deceased into the passenger’s seat and drove the car with her body back to his home in Jalan Sungai Nibong 5, Kapar and parked it in front of his house,” police reported. The suspect, a 44-year-old man was then arrested three hours later at his own home and has since been detained for further investigation.
Witnesses had apparently spotted the man stabbing Yuki before moving her into the passenger’s seat as they had been watching the alley from a window above the crime scene. As one of them hurriedly made a report to the police, the other managed to record the scene on a phone. Notably enough, numerous passers-by walked straight past the murder, despite the blood stains left on the ground beside the car.
Police later added that the suspect had stabbed himself after committing the murder. Reportedly, he had attempted to “wake” her. “However, the suspect could not wake her so he stabbed himself with a knife, and injured himself. The knife he used is believed to be the same knife that (he used) to stab the deceased,” police reportedly said.
Yuki’s boyfriend also shared that his girlfriend had been hesitant to meet with the man. Allegedly, he had been pursuing her for two years and had never been fond of meetings with him as they tended to run long. However, neither he nor Yuki’s family had expected to hear she had been stabbed.
The couple had just taken their wedding photos last Sunday (17th December). “The man invited Yuki out in the morning on 18th December,” Yuki’s boyfriend recalled. “But, Yuki and I both felt it was inappropriate so she declined. We changed the meeting time to 1pm, but didn’t expect this to happen.”
The last message Yuki’s boyfriend received from her was a funny video at 1.30pm on 18th December. However, he claimed he could not contact her after that. Initially, he had not thought much of it, as she had informed him of her eyelash extension appointment slated for 2pm. But close to 6pm, he had received a call from a friend claiming something had happened to Yuki.
He later confirmed for himself that Yuki had never gone to her appointment. The restaurant staff then told him that Yuki and the man had been fine while dining. However, when they walked out of the restaurant, they had an argument before the man stabbed Yuki. The staff also informed him that the police had come by to investigate the issue and had asked for their CCTV footage.
Yuki Koh’s family is hoping for an explanation from the police regarding the case as they are struggling to come to terms with Yuki’s death. Her brother, speaking to China Press while waiting to collect Yuki’s body from the morgue, claimed they had not even known about the existence of his sister’s ‘suitor’ prior to her passing. He hopes police will be able to arrest the murderer and get justice for his sister.
Police reportedly claim that the suspect arrested referred to himself as Yuki’s boyfriend. He allegedly has no criminal record. However, police have reassured that the case is still under investigation. Yuki’s funeral will be held on Thursday, 21st December. She leaves behind her three-year-old daughter from her previous marriage. Our hearts go out to her friends and family. We sincerely hope and pray they will be able to find peace in her passing.
