We’ve all been there – so hungry that only ‘Nasi Kandar’ will hit that spot, and you declare you could “eat an entire horse.” Well, one Singaporean competitive eater took it to the next level, turning that figurative expression into a near-reality.
His name is Zermatt Neo, a 36-year-old Singaporean who loves to eat. He travelled from the country to try our famous Nasi Kandar from Nasi Kandar Sulaiman in Penang, and has now broken a world record of the most expensive ‘Nasi Kandar’ eaten in just an hour.
His new record was set when he spent a whopping RM300 ringgit on one single plate of ‘Nasi Kandar’ which weighed 8kg. The restaurant shared on their personal TikTok that he had a total of 6 servings of rice. This shocking and yet impressive action is what led the Singaporean to break a new record and to overtake the restaurant’s former record breaker, a Malaysian who’s order came up to a total of RM222 for himself.
In the video, you can see the plate wiped clean in just an hour. However, we can’t help but be curious as to why the plate cost so much and what was ordered for the competitive eater. From the video, we can see that the influencer had:

- Fried chicken, four pieces
- Beef, four servings
- Squid, five servings
- Prawn, four servings
- Squid eggs, five servings

The new record holder challenged anyone to try the 8kg ‘Nasi Kandar’ – with a cheeky “but be warned – this 8kg throne is made of rice” warning added. Given that he only had an hour of sleep prior to the challenge, this Singaporean has definitely impressed Malaysians with his impressive eating skill – and to add, while drinking the sweetest ‘Sirap bandung’.
