Shopping Malls In Klang Valley Decked With Deepavali Decorations

As everyone knows, Malaysia always has a lot of celebrations to look forward to each year. This year, Deepavali comes at a perfect time, just a couple of months after everyone’s done with MCO blues.

The Festival of Lights is literally a bright spot in our current lives. So, we suggest you pay a visit to some of these malls and check out their Deepavali deco to get fired up for the festival!

1. Pavilion Kuala Lumpur

If you want bright, vibrant and colourful, stop by Pavilion KL. This year, they are boasting a 500-metre long kolam which has over 100 different designs. This Kolam Runway was designed by the students of Raffles College and INTI University, which gave them an opportunity to stretch their creative wings, so to speak. The students used the kolam to represent light triumphing over darkness, as well as to signify the beauty of Malaysia’s diversity.

The crowning jewel has to be the giant lotus flower kolam at the Crystal Fountain and Main entrance however. As it stands for eternity, purity, divine beauty and good fortune, it’s expected to bring good luck to all visiting shoppers.

2. Da Men USJ

An amazing effort has been taken to please those visiting Da Men USJ this year. Not only is the colourful kolam made of repurposed materials and art supplies, it is also the work of children. Kids, aged 5 to 12 years old, have spent 200 hours pouring their creativity into this 15ft by 15ft kolam. With their hard work, they’ve designed a peacock, which symbolises beauty and elegance. There’s also plenty of Instagrammable spaces, so make sure you put on your Deepavali best!

3. Intermark Mall

Not all that glitters is gold, but this kolam is certainly fit for royalty. Drop by Intermark Mall to check out their centrepiece, an opulant bejewelled kolam. Instead of the usual sand medium, they’ve gone all out with sparkly, shiny jewels! Trust us, you won’t be able to take your eyes off it.

4. Mid Valley Megamall

This mall hasn’t lost out in terms of colour, but they are going with a different theme design. In the midst of the colourful arrays of patterns, a gentle looking elephant presides over it all. It is said that elephants symbolise protection, strength, luck and loyalty; truly virtues are needed after these rather trying times.

5. Sunway Putra Mall

Although Deepavali is an age-old celebration, there are ways of making it more fun while still respecting its traditions. Sunway Putra Mall has certainly come up with one! If you check out their Kolam at the Ground Floor beside the Concierge Counter, you’ll be able to watch it come to life with a Rangoli Augmented Reality (AR). Not only that, Devi, Sunway’s classical Indian dancer will show off her moves via AR. So, check out the kolam surrounded by lush greenery and enjoy the show!

6. Fahrenheit88

Impressed by the beautiful display of 19 elegant, hand-stitched sarees and kurtas? It’s Fahrenheit88 shopping mall’s first ever collaboration with Dato’ Sri Bernard Chandran. Shoppers will get to feast their senses on a kaleidoscopic colours at Atrium, Ground Floor, while admiring Bernard Chandran’s Rock Zardosi 2003 collection for Deepavali 2021/2022.

7. The Gardens Mall

This year, the Gardens Mall celebrates Deepavali with a meaningfulkolam display at the concourse area on the Ground Floor. Inspired by the humble Purna-Kumbha, the elements in this year’s kolam represent the appreciation of a full and meaningful life. Come and admire the colourful, hanging decorations and the intricate rice design of the kolam with a five-foot-tall Purna-Kumbha sitting atop a platform at the centre of the masterpiece.

Masquerading as a simple earthen pot, the Purna-Kumbha is actually an essential part of worship in Hinduism. Purna-Kumbha literally means a ‘full vessel’ and symbolically it is a sign of plenty. A Purna-
Kumbha contains water and is used as a form worship of Varuna – the God of Rain. The water in the pot represents the life-giving ability of Nature. All the items used in the Purna-Kumbha signify a full life. With that, The Gardens Mall wishes all visitors a full and meaningful life, just like the Purna-Kumbha represents.

8. Suria KLCC

The celebration of Deepavali will be marked at Suria KLCC over 10 days. This year’s celebration vibrance can be felt with the creation of ‘Little India’ within the heart of Suria KLCC. Be greeted at the Centre Court of Suria KLCC with an intricate centrepiece of a spectacular 20-ft diameter ‘kolam’ that is designed as an interactive exhibit. Equipped with motion sensors, shoppers who wave their hands at the sensors will be treated with an interesting light show, thus elevating this beautiful ‘kolam’ from a mere static display into something that provides a sensational experience befitting of Deepavali.

We hope these beautiful decorations will help lift your mood or buoy it higher. In any case, do make sure to follow all SOPs when visiting the malls. Hope to see you guys there!
