Earlier this month, many feared for their lives when a shooting incident occurred at Setia City Mall, Setia Alam. Singer Vanessa Reynauld and actor Aaron Aziz were also personally affected by the ordeal, with Reynauld being at the premises when the first gunshot was heard.
The suspect had been on the run, but it was reported earlier today (Tuesday, 18th February) that he has since been neutralised. According to several reports, the armed man was shot dead by police during a shootout at a hotel in Pulau Ketam, Port Klang.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan issued an official statement confirming the news. Teams from the Bukit Aman and Selangor Criminal Investigation Departments tracked down the suspect, who was believed to have been involved in the mall shooting and conducted a raid at a hotel in Pulau Ketam at around 3am this morning.
“There was a shootout with the suspect in one of the hotel rooms. The police teams successfully neutralised the suspect, who was in his 30s,” the statement reads. The authorities also found and seized two loaded firearms in the shooter’s possession. Datuk Hussein Omar Khan added that the suspect had nine criminal records, including seven armed robberies and illegal drug possession. It is currently unclear whether the suspect was just hiding in Pulau Ketam or planned to flee the country.

Since the shooting incident, Setia City Mall has resumed normal operations, albeit with heightened security. NST reported that Selangor Police will bolster security at shopping malls and other places of interest across the state, following an order from the Inspector-General of Police.
Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan has also urged security personnel to undergo refresher courses and drills to better prepare for potential threats, such as a shooting.
