Fame can really get to someone’s head. If they’re not careful, they might end up getting caught doing something that would cause an uproar, especially with the existence of smartphones and social media. It’s very easy nowadays to capture something on camera and post online for the whole world to see.

A video or photo could go viral in seconds and you’ll see it trending everywhere. Sometimes certain individuals do or say something on their social media that can get them into even more trouble or ‘cancelled’ as they say. The individual known as ‘Kak Long 7-Eleven’ can be an example.

Kak Long 7-Eleven recently made headlines again when another video of her went viral where she appears to be mocking the behavior of people with disabilities (OKU). The viral video got netizens condemning her actions once again especially those in the OKU community. This matter caught the attention of Senator Ras Adiba Radzi, who is a senate representative for OKUs.

Senator Ras Adiba posted a statement yesterday (17th March) on her Instagram saying that Kak Long 7-Eleven’s action of mimicking a disabled person to create content on social media, was uncalled for. She believes that Kak Long 7-Eleven should make a public apology and do community service as punishment.

“We need to make sure that (insulting the disabled) is not something that people should make fun of. We have feelings, we have needs and dignity so this must be stopped,” she said. Senator Ras, who is also the president of OKU Sentral, has urged all disabled organisations and groups to file a police report against the individual so that legal action can be taken.

She believes that the call for all disabled organisations and groups to file a police report should be done as a way to improve the enforcement of Persons with Disabilities Act 2008 as there are still many out there that continue to ridicule and discriminate against the disabled community.

Kak Long 7-Eleven first made headlines after a video of her went viral of her throwing a fit at a 7-Eleven store in Terengganu which earned her the name. Although she has apologised to the 7-Eleven staff and the public for the incident, she went viral again after an old video of her promoting a local restaurant resurfaced online which caused her appearance on TV AlHijrah to be postponed.
