#SDCC2016: Warner Bros. Unleashes Empowering #WonderWoman Trailer

It’s a great time to be alive for DC Comics fans.

Not only were we served with a full “Justice League” trailer and footage from season 3 of The CW’s “The Flash” which both debuted at the San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC), a first trailer for the upcoming standalone “Wonder Woman” film has also been unleashed.

We’ve been excited about seeing Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman again ever since we had a glimpse of her in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice“, where she more or less stole the show. As such, the prospect of watching the most famous DC Comics heroine of all time finally coming to life in a full live-action film dedicated to her and her alone has rendered us giddy with excitement in about a million and one ways.

The official synopsis is as follows:

“Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.”

And now, thank you Warner Bros. for unveiling the first full trailer.

I have no father. I was brought to life by Zeus.

The trailer, which was screened at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) kicks off with Princess Diana Prince aka Wonder Woman (played by Gal Gadot) discovering US Army soldier Steve Trevor (played by Chris Pine) washed up on the beach at Themyscera, the home of the Amazons, during World War I.

To him she says, “You’re a man.” much to his confusion, having just crash-landed on the island and all, and perhaps a little bit of amusement.

It then goes on to include scenes of Amazonians fighting soldiers, Queen Hippolyta (played by Connie Nielsen) talking to her daughter (Wonder Woman) and warning her about the mortal realm, very close up shots of the amazing Wonder Woman getup, Wonder Woman making full use of her weapons (the Lasso of Truth and her shield), and more intimate moments as well as some dialogue exchange between Steve Trevor and Diana Prince.

The setting of the “Wonder Woman” standalone film is what you would expect to truly grant the heroine a powerful standing in man’s world i.e. at the time of World War I and gender inequality. Aesthetically, the production design is pretty amazing for something that’s a dark and gritty take on a Central European period piece – complete with costumes, battlefields, and bunkers. In not so many words, it’s beyond our expectations and we can’t wait for the movie to be released.

Scripted by Geoff Johns and Allan Heinberg, with a story by Heinberg and Zack Snyder, “Wonder Woman” also stars Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, David Thewlis, Danny Huston, Elena Anaya, Ewen Bremner, and Saïd Taghmaoui. The film is set to premiere on 2nd June 2017.
