#Scream: MTV Announces Cast For Film-Turned-TV Series

by Adrina

We watched it, we “screamed”, but we just can’t get enough of it. And now, we hear that iconic masked killer “Ghostface” is set to haunt us again in the upcoming TV adaptation of the 1996’s horror slasher film “Scream” in October 2015!

No prizes for guessing which cable network will develop the TV series, of course. As previously reported by MTV, the highly anticipated TV adaptation was already in early stages of development from as far back as 2012.

John Karna and Carlson Young

“Premature” stars John Karna and Carlson Young are reportedly attached to star in the TV series, alongside Willa Fitzgerald, Bex Taylor-Klaus, Conner Well, Amadeus Serafini, Joel Gretsch, Bobby Campo, Tom Madden, and Anna Grace Barlow.

MTV has ordered 10 episodes for the series and they will be directed by Jamie Travis, who has previously worked on the network’s single-camera romantic comedy series “Faking It”. Jay Beattie and Dan Dworkin are attached to pen the script while Jill Blotevogel is serving as showrunner. Blotevogel will also executive produce the series, alongside Harvey and Bob Weinstein under the Dimension TV production umbrella.

Directed by Wes Craven, the very first “Scream” film is a 1996’s hit horror slasher film that featured a masked killer known as “Ghostface”. The film follows a teenager, Sidney Prescott (played by Neve Campbell) who becomes the target of a masked killer that starts a mass murder of teenagers. The film became one of the most iconic horror films in the 90s, which later spawned 3 sequels.

Scream TV Series

However, the TV adaptation of the original film will take a new spin on the film as the series will no longer feature Sidney Prescott as well as “Ghostface”. According to TV.com, the network has not obtained the rights to the character yet and therefore, it will not appear in the current part of the TV series.

The series will now include a new set of characters; Fitzgerald will be playing a newly popular beauty, “Reign” star Amy Forsyth will be playing a pastor’s daughter and aspiring filmmaker while Amadeus Serafini will be playing a new kid with a dark side. As for the leading roles, Karna will be playing a tech wizard with a penchant for pop culture while Young is set to portray a bubbly queen bee.

No further details about the plot has been announced as of yet but what do you think of the TV series? Would you watch it if it was shown on your TV screen? Let us know in the comments box below!
