Mat rempits often act like they own the road, much to the frustration of everyone else. Well, as it turns out, this uncle was unable to stand their entitled attitude and decided to challenge them on their own turf.

Recently, a video of an uncle in a sarong is going viral for supposedly putting an end to a group of mat rempits’ antics on a road in Kemaman, Terengganu. Netizens were delighted to see him cut an imposing figure as he deterred the mat rempits with nothing but two sticks!

The video was reportedly taken on Saturday (23rd April) around 6:45pm and uploaded to TikTok the very same day. The video initially showed a group of mat rempits taking advantage of the open road to speed down it, uncaring of the racket they made. One rider was even spotted doing tricks. An uncle in an orange sarong was seen standing on the road, watching them.

Later, the same uncle was seen gesturing at the mat rempits, challenging them to “come”. In his hands, he was holding two wooden sticks. The group, gathered outside a nearby row of shops, looked wary of him and pointed to the sticks. Several merely sat on their bikes, watching the uncle as he paced the road, seemingly ‘patrolling’ it.

Netizens were quick to praise the uncle for his actions, claiming he was doing the public a service. However, police have since announced that they are investigating the uncle and others involved in the incident. “We are investigating the case under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987 (driving in a reckless and inconsiderate manner) and Section 506 of the Penal Code (criminal intimidation),” police reportedly stated.

Needless to say, this has not left many happy. “We should be thanking the uncle for helping to (stop) the mat rempits,” one comment pointed out. “Uncle is a hero,” another commented. “Shouldn’t the mat rempits be the ones getting investigated?” a netizen asked. One netizen even opined they should hold a protest if the uncle did get arrested.

Well, there’s no denying that mat rempits have been a bane to road users for a very long time now. But, we sincerely hope those on the road will continue to drive safely, both for their sakes and others.
