When you’re married to a celebrity, what you wear can ignite questions from their fans. Recently, Phoebe Sin (單文柔), former beauty pageant contestant and wife of Hong Kong actor Ruco Chan (陈展鹏), was accused of being a gold digger after netizens took notice of her luxury handbag in a recent photo.
The couple have been married since 2018 and have a daughter together. However, their 13-year age gap has always been talked about by netizens despite the two showing no issues. Recently, a XiaoHongShu user shared a photo with Ruco and Phoebe after meeting the couple at a museum. As shown in the image, the couple appeared in casual clothing, with Ruco wearing a simple white shirt with slacks and Phoebe wearing an orange blouse with jeans.
However, many netizens noticed that Phoebe was carrying a Hermès Birkin bag worth roughly RM96,000. The bag was also decorated with a silk scarf and keychain from the same luxury brand, adding to the already hefty price tag. The total cost of her outfit is estimated to be around six figures. The difference in the couple’s outfits also led to some netizens slamming the public figure, accusing her of being a gold digger and using her husband’s wealth to buy herself luxury items.
One comment under the post wrote, “His wife finally shows her money-loving side, from ordinary bags to Hermès”, pointing out that Phoebe never showed off any luxury items before marrying Ruco. While some comments did share the same sentiment, others defended the 34-year-old, saying that Ruco could’ve bought the bag out of love for his wife. It is also worth noting Phoebe herself is a host and actress contracted to TVB and is also active as an influencer.
