For those who may not have known, Rihanna has two children with her boyfriend A$AP Rocky. The couple are parents to sons RZA (3) and Riot (2), and the singer surprised everyone by revealing she was expecting her third child at this year’s Met Gala back in May.
At the time of the surprise announcement, neither artist disclosed the baby’s gender. However, a few months later, the rapper hinted that they were expecting their first daughter. All rumours and speculation have since been put to rest after Rihanna took to social media to officially introduce her beautiful baby girl to the world.
Earlier today (Thursday, 25th September), Rihanna shared the exciting news on her Instagram page that she and A$AP Rocky have recently welcomed their daughter, Rocki Irish Mayers. According to the caption, she was born on 13th September. The singer posed with her baby in her arms, with both of them dressed in pink.
The second slide of the post featured tiny pink boxing gloves. According to reports, the symbolism lies in Rocki being named after her father, whose real name is Rakim Mayers. Since his nickname is Rocky, the boxing gloves are most likely a nod to the legendary fictional boxer Rocky Balboa from the “Rocky” film franchise. As for her middle name, Irish, it is thought to be a tribute to the “Smurf” star’s late father, Ronald Fenty, who was of African, Irish, English and Scottish descent.
Since posting the photos, many of Rihanna’s fans and celebrity friends have congratulated her and A$AP on the birth of their 3rd child. As for whether the couple plans to have more children, the “Umbrella” singer revealed in a 2020 Vogue interview that she envisioned having up to 4 children within 10 years, so it is possible the pair may consider one more to complete their family.
In related news, during a recent interview with Elle, A$AP Rocky appeared to hint that he and Rihanna may already be married. When asked if he was looking forward to becoming a husband one day, he laughed and replied, “How do you know I’m not already a husband? I’m still not going to confirm it.”
Guess we’ll have to wait a little longer for official marriage news. Nevertheless, congratulations to Rihanna and A$AP Rocky on the latest addition to their family!
